Overview
Campus Services Information Technology Policies and Procedures are issued under the authority of Craig K Hyatt ,IT Director, who reviewed and approved their contents as of 1/14/2009 General: Campus Services Information Technology provides superior, innovative and responsive technology management to departments within the Campus Services Division to support the university’s mission of teaching, research and public service. We strive to provide technology to improve business processes, reduce costs and increase customer satisfaction. We seek to create a work environment that encourages innovation, risk taking, communication and teamwork. Our customers include faculty, students, and staff from all over the UNC Chapel Hill campus, from various university divisions. Password Policy
Policy 1 - Password Policy Effective Date: 3/29/2011 Last Modified: 3/29/2011 Passwords must be changed every 90 days Passwords must be at least 8 characters long Passwords require characters from at least three (3) of the following (4) classes: English upper case letters English lower case letters Arabic numerals (0, 1, 2, 3, etc) Non-alphanumeric ("special characters") such as punctuation symbols Valid non-alphanumeric "special characters" include the following list: ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + ` - = { } [ ] \| \ : ; " ' < > , . ? / Passwords may NOT contain any foreign characters. Passwords may NOT contain your user name or any part of your full name. Accounts will be locked out after 3 failed login attempts in 5 minutes. Once an account is locked the user must contact C.S.I.T. to have it unlocked.

Administrative Privileges Policy
Policy 2 - Administrative Privileges Policy Effective Date: 1/14/2009 Last Modified: 1/14/2009 In accordance with security and industry standard best practices users are not permitted Administrative User Rights. All requests for such rights will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Only in exceptional circumstances, and after thorough review, will such rights be granted.

Remote Access Policy
Policy 3 - Remote Access Policy Effective Date: 1/14/2009 Last Modified: 1/14/2009 Remote access (from outside the UNC campus network) to the Campus Services data network is provided through Virtual Private Network (VPN) connectivity. VPN access rights are provided on a business need basis. To request VPN access go to http://www.csit .unc.edu and click on Get IT Help.

Supported Software Policy
Policy 4 - Supported Software Policy Effective Date: 1/14/2009 Last Modified: 1/14/2009 Each department has a package of officially supported software. Requests for additional software will be reviewed based on business case. To request additional software go to http://www.csit.unc.edu and click on Request IT Help.

Network Access Policy
